It’s officially December, and what better way to kick it off than with 12 days (in a row!) of super fun tips, techniques and/or ideas? For the next 12 days, we’ll share something totally fun each day that will boost your creativity and give you some great ideas to get ready for the holidays!
Today’s focus is on scrapping with your scraps. Everyone’s got scraps left from projects, so why not use them up? Here are some fun layouts that do just that!
To create these layouts, you’ll need:
- White Page
- Scraps of paper from Christmas Joy Patterned Paper
- Christmas Joy Stickers
- Paper Trimmer
- Scissors
- Foam Squares
- Tape Runner
The layout shown above features a handful of simple scraps strategically placed right onto a white page for a totally whimsy, fun feel! Starting with several 1/2″ thick strips of paper, begin by cutting the first “tree” strip 4.5″ wide and each strip thereafter 1/2″ shorter. So, the second strip will be 4″ wide, the third 3.5″ wide, etc. Cut a tiny strip of gold/white striped paper for the tree trunk. Assemble directly onto white page. Adhere red star sticker to top of tree using small Foam Square.
Cut 2 photo mats from scrap paper to measure 6.5″ x 4.5″. Adhere each to page as shown.
Cut a strip of green patterned scrap to measure 12″ x 1″ and adhere across top of page.
Adhere I <3 Christmas sticker to red patterned paper, then trim around. Adhere to page as shown using Foam Squares. Add journaling after photos have been added. (Black cardstock placed where photos would go.)
The next layout (shown just above) also features scraps used on a page in combination with a full sheet of patterned paper. This one could also easily be done without the background sheet, too, if you wish.
Create trees by simply folding rectangles of varying sized scrap paper in half length-wise, then trimming from one corner to the opposite corner with scissors. Create trees of varying sizes and patterns, then adhere to page, leaving approximately 1/2″ between bottom of trees and bottom of page.
Randomly tear strips measuring from 1″ – 2″ in height from bottom of white cardstock, then adhere across bottom of page. Gently “roll” the tops of the white pieces down to resemble snow. Adhere red star and North Pole stickers as shown.
Cut a piece of scrap green patterned paper to measure 12″ x 4.5″. Adhere to top of page, then adhere photos across center. (Black cardstock placed where photos would go.)
Cute! Thanks for these fun Christmas page ideas!
What a great way to use up those scraps I can’t seem to throw away!
Same here, Carol! We have piles upon piles of scraps! :)
I love both of these pages. Thanks so much for sharing them !
Thank you, Barbara! :)
When I was still with my upline and group in northeastern Illinois, I was known as the “scrap queen.” I even did a breakout once about using scraps to highlight pages and add just the right touch of color. I began the breakout by telling the ladies that, after they had left for the day, I rummaged through their waste bags and found lots of big pieces that could be re-used (only CM papers, of course!). I use my DecoFile to store my scraps, have them sorted by colors (2 colors per folder). So throughout the weekend, we’d hear ladies shout out, “I just used up some of my scraps!” “Yippee ~ look how I used up these scraps!” It created a fun atmosphere.
Love it, Renate! What fun!
