Decorating for the holidays is my absolute favourite thing to do as soon as the snow flies (and we had our first dusting this past weekend!). All the beautiful colours, that take over the whole house just transforms this time of the year.
Today I’d love to share with you two super simple ways to make your own Christmas tree ornaments this holiday season while reminiscing about memories made during holidays past!
The first ornament I want to show you is a quick and simple one and I encourage you to make lots and lots of them! All you need is:
- Custom Cutting System
- Oval Patterns for the CCS
- Cranberry 12X12 Solid Cardstock
- Silver Shimmer Cardstock
- The Tape Runner
- Foam Squares
- A Photo
- Some String, Ribbon or Twine
You’ll start by taking the smallest oval out of the Oval Patterns and your Red Blade and you’ll cut out the photo of your choice using the outside guide of the oval. Next you’ll use the same Oval and cut out a red oval out of Cranberry Cardstock using the Green Blade. Finally you’ll cut out a silver oval the same way, except using the Blue Blade.
Use your tape runner to adhere your photo to the Cranberry oval and then tape down the knot on the back of the red oval. Use foam squares to attach the silver layer to the backside of the ornament – it gives it a nice raised look as well as hides the knot without showing a bump or crease in your ornament.
And that’s it! Like I said, super sweet and super simple. It’s a fun way of hanging memories all over the tree! They can also be used as really special gift tags for loved ones over the holidays as well. Once the presents are open they can still be hung on the tree!
Next I want to show you a stepped up version. It’s the same idea of getting photos and memories hanging from your tree this holiday – but taking it up a knotch!
All you’ll need to complete this project is:
- Christmas Past Paper Pack
- Custom Cutting System
- Circle Patterns for the CCS
- Cranberry 12X12 Solid Cardstock
- White 12X12 Solid Cardstock
- Silver Shimmer Cardstock
- Border Maker System
- Midnight Stars Border Cartridge
- The Tape Runner
- Foam Squares
- A Photo
- Some String, Ribbon or Twine
- A clear ornament ball (these can be found at craft supply stores)
Use your Circle Patterns for your CSS and cut out a photo along with a Silver Shimmer mat that will fit inside the ornament ball you’ve purchased. Adhere the photo to the mat and write the date or journal around the photo.
Next, use White 12″ X 12″ Solid Cardstock with your Midnight Stars Border Punch and punch out a couple of border strips. Keep those strips for another project and just use the confetti that punches out of your border.
Put the confetti in the ornament and then put the photo over top. Now, to keep the photo in place and stop the confetti from sneaking out of the front of the ornament all you need to do is cut strips of Christmas Past Paper between 1/2″ and 1″ in width and 12″ in length. Roll the paper up into a tight spiral and continue making these until it fills that back portion of the ornament.
Close up and seal the ornament and you’re all set!
I hope you’re able to fill your home with fond memories and beautiful photos from holidays past!
