The small, adorable size of the 8×8 album is perfect for gift albums, weekender albums and tribute albums. But sometimes adding another project on top of the regular family albums you’re already working on can seem a little daunting. Not anymore! Here’s a quick, easy way to make an 8×8 album using just a few supplies and tools of your choice!
I’ve used the Slice of Summer collection here, but you can use any collection of papers and stickers that suit your project. What will you use for yours?
Do not delay in getting your 8×8 Coversets, as they are only available a few times a year, and RIGHT NOW is one of those windows!
Not to worry though, the page refills are available all of the time. So, this allows you to create the pages whenever you wish!
To make this album you’ll need:
- 8×8 Album and Pages
- Half of a Paper Pack (you’ll use 1 sheet each of 6 designs)
- Coordinating Sticker Pack
- 12-inch Straight Trimmer
- Original Border Maker System with 4-5 cartridges of your choice (I used Scallop Dot, Zig Zag, Foot Prints, Lace Flower Chain and Sprout Chain)
- Tape Runner with Repositionable Tape Runner Refill
- Foam Squares
Cutting instructions for each of the the 6 papers:
Cut a paper lengthwise at the 8-inch mark to make 8″ x 12″ and 4″ x 12″* pieces.
With the 8″ x 12″ piece, cut 4 inches off the long side to make 8″ x 8″ and 8″ x 4″ pieces.
The 8″ x 8″ square will make several border pieces. (Tip: Make sure to check both sides of the paper to orient the design the way you want it before cutting.) Using the border maker and cartridges you chose, punch 3 different borders, trimming out as needed. Cut the remainder of the piece into strips (approximately two 1-1/2″ x 8″ strips will work).
*Cut the 4″ x 12″ strip into either one 4″ x 4″ and one 4″ x 8″ pieces OR three 4″ x 4″ squares.
Now’s the fun part! Mix and match border strips and rectangles on each of the pages. Use the 4″ x 4″ squares as mats or journal boxes and decorate as desired. Add stickers, mounting some with foam squares to make ’em pop. Each album will be unique, fun and oh-so-easy to put together!
We would LOVE to see your completed project on Social Media by using #creativememories.
Happy Creating!
Thank you so much for this instruction manual! I am about to start an album for my sister, honouring her dog. This makes starting so much easier! And, the pages look great. I am officially inspired!
That’s great! I’ve made one using the Fur Buddies collection and it turned out so cute! Have fun.
That is how I am planning to use this layout! A gift for my son with photos of my grand dog for a Christmas gift! -Melissa
I LOVE this! Thank you for the great idea!
Thank you! It’s like having a “Snap Pack” from the ‘ole’ days that helped me to complete many scrapbooks, minus the stress of engineering and all the fun of crafting and putting together! Makes for fast and beautiful scrapbooks!!!
I remember those! I like simple…glad you do, too!
I LOVE it!!! Very simple and creative. I love your sharing so many ideas with us. =)
Thanks for the measurements. That is a great help. Wonderful inspiration!
I am afraid I don’t get it – where are the pictures? How do you place them?
Hi, Patti: Once you cut each of the 6 papers per instructions, you’ll have lots of borders, strips and rectangles to mix & match as you like on the pages. With different designs on both sides of each paper, that gives you 12 different designs and lots of border strips to play with. There’s no wrong way to do this…super easy. Does that help?
Has anybody done this for the 12×12 pages? I love this idea of having so many borders, strips and rectangles to mix and match as you like!
When CM made Snap Packs like this for 8X8 albums in the past, I used them on 12X12 layouts…made my layouts easy, clean and left lots of room for photos (which is the main reason I use 12X12 pages, to get more photos on a page). If you’re not sure, try it out with just one of the layouts first. If you like it, you might need to get more paper for matting photos…just a thought, hope this helps.
Brilliant, Krislyn!! Thank you so much for sharing with us!!
Getting started is always the hardest part. This simple “recipe” makes it instantly doable!! Can’t wait to make one. Thank you!
