Archiver’s Borders of Days Gone By

I love working with old photos, especially when I know the names and even some of the stories that go along with them. I will admit it can be challenging to effectively arrange on a page a group of old delicate black and white photos, in all sizes and conditions.

That’s why I love the new Archiver’s™ collection. The muted color scheme and delicate laser cut embellishments blend so well with the old photos and eras so they complement, not distract, and help pull together a unified page. These borders serve to recreate the feel of an era gone by, to balance pages full of well-loved photos and the memories they evoke.

To create these scrapbooking borders you’ll need:

• Archiver’s™ Paper Pack, Variety Mat Pack, Laser Cut Border Embellishments, Laser Cut Embellishments and ABC/123 Stickers
• Forever Yours Vellum Paper Pack
• White Cardstock
• Victorian Fence Border Punch
• Teardrop Lattice Border Punch
• Original Border Maker System with Heart Chain and Crown Chain Cartridges
• 12-inch Straight Trimmer
• All-Purpose Scissors
• Tape Runner with Repositionable and Vellum Refills
• Foam Squares
• Precision Point Adhesive Pen

Archiver’s Fence Border

1. Begin with a sheet of brown diamond paper as the base. Using the Victorian Fence Border Punch, punch along the top of a sheet of family tree paper. Trim 1/2″ off  the three other sides and mount on base piece.
2. Cut a 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip of tan vellum and a 1-1/4″ x 12″ strip of floral paper. Adhere just under the first set of fence “slats”. Top with a vine border embellishment. Add the striped border embellishment underneath.
3. Add butterfly and fern embellishments as shown. (TIP: The Precision Point Adhesive Pen works beautifully with the laser cut embellishments.)

Archiver’s Argyle Border

1. Cut a 2-3/4″ x 12″ strip of argyle paper for the base, being careful to cut full patterns. Cut a 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip of tan vellum, a 1-1/4″ x 12″ strip of striped paper and a 1″ x 12″ strip of black paper. Mount in order on the base.
2. Add the border embellishment in the middle using the Precision Point Adhesive Pen.
3. I like to tie a two-page spread together by using a mat that matches the border on the opposite page. It’s a great place to add a title or a block of journaling.

Archiver’s Days Gone By Border

1. Cut a 2-7/8″ x 12″ strip of polka dot paper for the base. Cut a 1-7/8″ x 12″ strip of beige floral paper to mount on top. Cut a 1″ x 12″ strip of tan vellum. Snip a “V” shape off each end and add to the top of the beige floral strip, using Vellum Tape Runner Refill. Adhere the scalloped border embellishment underneath the vellum piece as shown.
2. Using the Heart Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch a border with White Cardstock. Trim off two hearts. Add your title, in this case, “DAYS GONE BY”. Mount to the border with Foam Squares.
3. Duplicate the heart chain and ribbon design on a matching mat; add the typewriter embellishment.

Archiver’s Rose Border

1. Cut a 3″ x 12″ strip of brown patterned paper for the base. Cut a 1-1/4″ x 12″ strip of black paper. Top with the rose border embellishment.
2. Punch two teardrop lattice borders each with White Cardstock and off white floral vellum. Adhere the vellum borders on top of the cardstock borders. Mount on the top and bottom of the base, with the rose/black strip piece on top as shown.
3. Add the rose circle embellishment with Foam Squares.

Archiver’s Legacy Border

1. Cut a 3″ x 12″ strip of striped paper for the base. Cut a 2-3/8″ x 12″ strip of black paper and add to the base.
2. Cut a 3-1/2″ x 12″ strip of grey paper. Using the Crown Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch along both sides. Trim off the tops to create a “gear” effect. Add to the border.
3. Cut a 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip of white patterned paper. Adhere to the border and add the gears border embellishment down the middle as shown.
4. Cut a 1″ x 3-3/4″  strip of black paper. Adhere to the border at an angle as shown; trim the edges flush with the border. Add the “Legacy” embellishment on top.
