Have you seen the Timber, Stone and Cloth Paper Packs yet? I absolutely love how realistic the textures are! These border designs came about by indecision. So many shades and textures, how could I choose just a few? What if I laid strips of my favorites side by side, marquetry-style, and used the resulting patterns to create richly textured borders? Read on to see what I came up with!

To make these scrapbooking borders you’ll need:

NOTE: I won’t tell you which papers to use here. I’ll leave it to you to find your own favorites. I know you will love the unique looks you come up with to create these pieced and punched borders!

For the base of this border, cut a 2-3/8″ x 12″ strip of paper and notch the corners with the 2-Way Corner Rounder. Cut a 2″ x 11-5/8″ strip of dark paper or Cardstock, notch the corners and mount on the larger strip.

Cut 3/8″ x 12″ strips of five different papers. I chose a variety of colors and textures for the most interest. Apply Repositionable Tape along the length of each strip and mount side by side on a 2″ x 12″ strip of Cardstock.

Punch five maple leaves from the pieced strip. Mount as shown to the base using Foam Squares.

Below I’ve used the same border “recipe” but added papers from other collections along with the Timber, Stone and Cloth papers. I love how the textures bring out something new and fun in each of the collections!

Glacier Collection

Using the Glacier Collection, follow the same instructions listed above. Instead of maple leaves, cut five circles from your pieced border strip using the inside of the medium Custom Cutting System pattern and the blue blade. Finish with Glacier Stickers and pearl gems from the Gallivant Embellishments Pack.

Full Bloom

Using the Full Bloom Collection, follow the same instructions listed above. Use the Dewdrop Flower Punch to punch 5 flowers from the pieced strip. Add flower centers from the Embossed Trio Flower Punch and pearl gem embellishments.

  1. This is a great “update” to what we used to make and call ‘serendipity squares!”
