Stay Creative and Inspired with Essentials Geometric Scrapbook Borders

The Essentials collection is all about taking things back to the basics. The two paper packs in the collection feature geometric designs and a palette that is great for creating primary scrapbook borders that will add a classic aesthetic to any page you make. To create these borders, you will need:

Essentials Star Student Border

Step 1: Cut a strip of black star patterned paper to measure 12″ x 2″.

Step 2: Using the Decorative Trimmer, feed the red patterned paper from the left side and cut. Flip the paper over and feed in from the right side to trim at the 1-inch mark.

Step 3: Cut two circles each from the green and blue patterned paper using the small Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern. Use the Green Blade first, then the Red Blade.

Step 4: Thread the circles through the cut red border and adhere to the black star paper.

Step 5: Place a Foam Square on the back of the Star Student sticker and adhere to the middle of the border.

Essentials Create & Inspire Border

Step 1: Cut a strip of black star patterned paper to measure 12″ x 2-1/4″.

Step 2: Using the Decorative Trimmer, feed the yellow patterned paper in from the right side and cut. Then, insert the paper from the left side and cut at 1/2″ mark.

Step 3: Using the Decorative Trimmer, feed the red patterned paper in from the right side and cut. Then, use the Straight Trimmer and cut at 1/4″. Adhere it to the yellow piece and adhere to the base.

Step 4: Using the Custom Cutting System, cut the white and black swirl patterned paper using the Small Circle and the Red Blade, cut the blue patterned paper using the Medium Circle and the Red Blade, cut the green patterned paper using the Medium Circle and the Green Blade and cut a piece of Red Cardstock using the Small Circle and Red Blade.

Step 5: Adhere the green and blue circles to the border as shown. Then, adhere the white and red circles to the border using Foam Squares.

Step 6: Punch a heart from the red foiled patterned paper with the Double Heart Punch. Place stickers and punched hearts on the border as shown. Use Foam Squares for the crayons and the “Create” and “Inspire” stickers.

Essentials & Sunshine Border Maker Cartridge Border

Step 1: Using the Border Maker System with the Sunshine Border Maker Cartridge, punch suns down one side of the blue patterned paper. Then, place the blue paper in the Decorative Trimmer with the punched side on the right and cut at 3-5/8″.

Step 2: Cut a piece of yellow patterned paper to measure 1-1/2″ x 12″ and adhere under the blue border so that it shows through the suns. Allow 1/8″ of the yellow paper to show on the left.

Step 3: Cut a piece of red grid patterned paper to measure 1″ x 12″ and adhere under the border with approximately 5/8″ showing on the left side. Then, place the composition-patterned border sticker on the red patterned paper.

Step 4: Starting at the top, place the journaling prompt stickers at every other sun.

Step 5: Cut six rectangles using yellow patterned paper to measure 2″ x 5/8″. Have your student answer the journaling prompts using a Black Dual-Tip Pen. Then, adhere these pieces under the journal-prompt stickers.

Step 6: Using the Decorative Trimmer, cut a piece of black star patterned paper to measure 3/4″ x 12″ and adhere it on the right-hand side of the border.

Step 7: Place five yellow star stickers between the blue patterned paper and black star patterned paper.

Step 1: Cut a piece of blue patterned paper to measure 2-7/8″ x 12″.

Step 2: Cut a piece of foiled patterned paper to measure 2-1/2″ x 12″.

Step 3: Cut a piece of red patterned paper to measure 2″ x 12″.

Step 4: Using the Decorative Trimmer, cut a piece of black-and-white swirl patterned paper to measure 3/4″ x 12″.

Step 5: Adhere the papers as shown and add stickers using Foam Squares.

  1. Every one of these is an inspiration! I love the bright, primary colors of the papers and embellishments. The use of simple shapes: straight cuts, wavey cuts, circles and hearts add to the great effect of the borders.
