#FeatureFriday – Go Behind the Scenes with the Designer of the Season’s Greetings Collection

The Season’s Greetings collection launched earlier this month, and everyone has been feeling the holiday spirit ever since! There have been rave reviews coming in for the collection, and everyone seems to love the illustrations and design themes that went into it. That credit goes all to Illustrator and Product Designer Alex, who underwent the task of creating a holiday collection that had all of the classic themes of the season while still being unique and original. Check out what Alex had to say about the collection, her inspiration for Season’s Greetings and enjoy a fun Christmas Q&A with her at the end! Happy reading!

Meet the Designer

Alex-Creative-Memories-DesignerAlex has been working with us as a product designer and illustrator for over a year now! Before working for Creative Memories, she was a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Now she happily spends her days making art for you fine folks. Other collections she has designed so far include Bee MineFull BloomSun-KissedO CanadaLumberjack, Best in Show, Locally Grown, Essentials and many more to come! Outside of work, Alex loves to work (haha), as pattern-making is one of her hobbies. She likes to cook, travel, read nerdy sci-fi novels and snuggle with her pets, Larry (dog!) and Alphonse (cat!). And she just got married this last August!

What Inspired This Collection?

“This collection was supposed to be as traditional as possible, with red and green
galore. I did end up going a slightly vintage route, with nods to classic Christmas
tunes and retro décor. Beautiful screen-printed wrapping paper was a major source
of inspiration as well.”

How Would You Describe the Color Palette?

“I would describe the color palette as simple and festive. The collection is filled with olive greens, merry reds, vintage cream and dark grays. There is no white in the collection to give everything an antique vibe.”

How Would You Describe the Papers?

“Many of the papers are fresh takes on vintage gift wrap designs. There are
poinsettia flowers, a snowy countryside with cottages and churches among pine
trees, and lit candles tied with ribbon along garlands of pine needles. There is a
filigree pattern that has tree shapes hidden within, there are subtle trellis,
houndstooth, candy cane stripes, holly leaves and berries, stars, quilted patterns,
snowflakes and unique ornament shapes. My favorite is the
poinsettia paper. It’s so lively and vibrant!”

What is Unique About the Collection?

“Everything is an original, new take on a timeless aesthetic. It is very vibrant within
a limited palette. Everything was drawn digitally and there is a dated texture and
antique fade to all of the elements.”

What Do You Envision This Collection Being Used For?

“I see it being used for Christmas with your family, holiday trips, winter festivities, cookie decorating parties, workplace get-togethers, Secret Santa and so much more! Our Advisors and customers were begging for a true red-and-green, traditional Christmas. This is it! I tried to keep it fresh and clean while also classic and ageless.”

What is Your Favorite Embellishment?

“I like the holly laser cut borders! It perfectly captures the style I was trying to emulate.”

Now, a Few Christmas Questions for Alex…

Is your Christmas tree real or fake? “I have never had a real tree! Now that I’m old enough to make my own decisions, I fear that my cat would eat the needles and my dog would slurp the sap water. Alas, we remain fake.”

What is your favorite Christmas film? “This goes with tradition. Every year (this year will be our sixth), Mike and I have a Christmas date. We get wood-fired pizza at a tiny place by our house and afterward, we go to an old theatre for their annual showing of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ I always cry.”

What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat? “Butterscotch Delight!”

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season? “I do love the atmosphere in our chilly neck of the woods… snow swirling and mood lighting. I think going somewhere in Scandinavia or Europe with big old churches and buildings would be so cozy and romantic!”

What makes the holidays special for you? “This year, I get to go spend time with my new family in Wisconsin! I love spending time with my four nephews especially. They are WILD but lots of fun.” 😊

  1. Beautiful collection!!! Thank you for a your hard work putting it together for an Old Time Christmas. My favorites are always the laser cut borders. They are fabulous!° How did you make the Christmas trees in the abo e photo?? Thank you Alex.

  2. I really like this collection. I think the colors will work with my pictures, and I really like the tree border cartridge.

  3. I love this collection but my favorite is the pages in the Fast2Fab album. I think this is the first that doesn’t have designated spots for photos. They’re just beautifully decorated pages that we can put photos on wherever we want. And if we want we can add more embellishments, or not.

    1. I love this feature, also. It was for this exact reason that I purchased the F2F pages! Also, the simplicity of design.
