Add Life to your Vacation Layouts with these Travel Scrapbook Border Ideas

Returning home from vacation can be depressing. You have suitcases to unpack, responsibilities to address and PTO to build back up. Need an easy way to beat the post-getaway blues? Get to work on a vacation scrapbook layout! Not only will this help you reminisce about the fun you just had, but also ensure you have a way to look back on the trip, whether it’s years from now or just next week. Check out these ideas from contributor Krislyn — she created three original vacation scrapbook borders you can use to decorate your layouts!

Krislyn’s Inspiration:

It’s springtime in the US, and I (like many) am spending a lot of time thinking about my upcoming vacations. While some folks embark on bustling trips to exciting cities around the world, others escape to the quieter wilderness with panoramic views. Wherever you’re headed this summer, these borders combine the best of the Great Escape and Travel Log collections to enhance the pictures and stories you have to tell when you return. Happy travels!

To create these borders you’ll need:

• Travel Log Paper Pack, Variety Mat Pack, Pocket Embellishments, Banner & Tag Embellishments and Stickers or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Great Escape Paper Pack and Laser Cut Borders or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Black and White Cardstock or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Cityscape and Scallop Border Punches or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Original Border Maker System with the Picket Fence Cartridge or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• 12-inch Trimmer or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Tape Runner with Repositionable Tape Runner Refill or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Foam Squares or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
• Precision Point Adhesive Pen or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)

Vacay Scrapbook Border

Step 1: Cut a 3-1/8″ x 12″ strip of the pink-lattice patterned paper (Travel Log) for the base. Cut a 2-3/4″ x 12″ strip of the navy-dot patterned paper (Great Escape) and mount on top of the base.

Step 2: Punch a border using the Cityscape Border Punch with the gray-blue geometric-patterned paper (Travel Log). Trim to 2-3/8″ x 12″ and mount on top of the navy-dot patterned strip.

Step 3: Cut a 1-1/8″ x 12″ strip of the white-globe patterned paper (Travel Log). Using the Tape Runner, adhere the diamond laser-cut border on top of that and adhere to the border right below the Cityscape strip.

Step 4: Adhere the “I Was Here” embellishment with Foam Squares.

For the Pocket: Using the Cityscape Border Punch, punch a border with the gray-blue geometric-patterned paper (Travel Log). Cut the border to measure 4″ x 1-3/4″ and adhere it to the pink-and-white Pocket Embellishment. Cut a piece of navy-dot patterned paper to measure 4″ x 1/4″ and adhere it to the border. Add the “Vacay” sticker with Foam Squares.

Born to Roam Scrapbook Border

Step 1: Cut a 3-1/4″ x 12″ strip of Black Cardstock for the base. Cut a 3″ x 12″ strip of the green patterned paper (Great Escape) and mount it on top of the base.

Step 2: Adhere the trees laser-cut border (black side up) to the middle of the border.

Step 3: Using the Picket Fence Cartridge, punch a border with the crimson patterned paper (Travel Log). Trim to 1-1/8″ x 12″. Punch another border with the Black Cardstock. Trim to 1/2″ x 12″ and tuck underneath the crimson patterned border so only the points show. Adhere this piece to the border, just below the trees, as shown.

Step 4: Cut a 5/8″ x 12″ strip of the pink-lattice patterned paper (Travel Log). Using the Tape Runner, mount the “Born to Roam” laser-cut border on top and adhere to the crimson piece, just covering the bars of the picket fence.

For the Journal Box: Cut a 1/2″ x 6″ strip of the pink-lattice patterned paper and a 1/4″ x 6-1/4″ strip of green patterned paper. Notch a “V” in one end of each strip and mount the strips near the bottom edge of the crimson-and-white mat. Using the Foam Squares, add the “Wander & Explore,” “Photo Opp” and camera stickers on top.

Lighthouse Scrapbook Border

Step 1: Cut a 2-1/2″ x 12″ strip of the slate gingham patterned paper (Great Escape) for the base. Cut a 2″ x 12″ strip of the gray-blue geometric-patterned paper (Travel Log) and mount it on top of the base, flush with the right side.

Step 2: Using the Scallop Border Punch, punch a border with White Cardstock. Trim the border to 3/4″ x 12″ and tuck it behind the gray-blue geometric-patterned strip so just the first row of scallops shows.

Step 3: Using the 12-inch Trimmer, cut off roughly 1/2″ of the right side of the lighthouse. Mount the lighthouse flush with the right side of the border, as shown. Add a chevron border sticker to the left edge of the gray-blue geometric-patterned strip.

Step 4: Top the border with various stickers as shown, popping some up with Foam Squares.

For the Journal Box: Cut the pictured ruled mat in half. Add the file folder sticker, arrow and “This Place” embellishments.
