Today is Victoria Day in Canada, which marks the unofficial start of summertime. When you think of summertime, you likely think of the outdoors and enjoy all of the gifts Mother Nature has to offer. With that in mind, it’s perfect timing that Victoria Day is only a few weeks after the launch of the Great Escape collection, which combines aspects of wildlife and Canadian heritage in one fantastic collection. Check out contributor Cheryl Degraaf’s outdoor scrapbook layout she made using Great Escape to celebrate Victoria Day!
Cheryl’s Inspiration
We spent a week of holidays at my parents’ trailer in Port Albert. Our family is so large that we didn’t all fit in the trailer so the ‘big’ kids got to sleep in our tent. We enjoyed amazing fireworks, hours spent swimming in the camp pool, exploring along the river, nightly campfires, delicious s’mores and time with family.

To create this layout, you will need:
- Great Escape Paper Pack or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- Great Escape Laser Cut Border Embellishments or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- Majestic Mountains Border Punch or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- Explorer Stickers or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- 12×12 Crimson Solid Cardstock or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- 12×12 Navy Solid Cardstock or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- 12-inch Trimmer or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- Tape Runner or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
- Repositionable Tape Runner Refill or (Shop Canada | Shop Australia)
Step 1: Use the Crimson Cardstock as your base for the left side of the layout. Cut out a strip of the striped patterned paper so it covers 1/3 of the cardstock base. Adhere it to the left side of the cardstock.
Step 2: Use the Majestic Mountains Border Punch to create a mountain border using the blue-and-white polka dot paper. Adhere the diamond laser-cut border embellishment on top of the new mountain border and adhere that border to the bottom right of the page.
Step 3: Use the Navy Cardstock as your base for the right page of the layout. Cut a strip of the blue-and-white polka dot paper so it covers 1/3 of the cardstock base vertically, leaving a tiny border around the edges. Cover the other 2/3 of the cardstock base with the cream forest paper. Adhere to the cardstock with space for the borders.
Step 4: Adhere the forest treeline laser-cut border embellishment to the bottom of the page.
Step 5: Create the same mountain and diamond border as you did in step 2 but reverse the shades. Place it on the top left of the page and adhere it.
Step 6: Add photos, mats, decorate and journal as desired.
Whether you’re from Canada or have an affinity for it, this outdoor scrapbook layout is a great way to celebrate Victoria Day, the start of summer or any other occasion you spend outdoors. How will you use it? Let us know in the comments below!
I like your example. I didn’t know the punch with mountains. You did a good work!
Finally, a page example with more than one or two pictures and a ton of product surrounding that picture! Hooray!!! Thank you so much for the layout which is true to the original CM philosophy that the pictures and the stories in journaling behind those pictures are what we should capture for posterity. Anyone can create artwork in any number of ways, but only someone who knows the people in the pictures and the stories that the pictures tell can create a masterpiece for a family to share. Let’s have more of this, the essence of what scrapbooking truly is! Beautiful.
