Selfies + Summertime = This Fun-Filled Summer Scrapbook Layout

June 21st is National Selfie Day — a holiday that is spent in admiration of the art of the selfie. On the surface, taking a selfie may look like the easiest thing in the world but scrapbookers know the challenges that come with it. The selfie-taker’s task is three-fold: Ensure everything and everyone is in the frame, everyone looks good and everyone’s happy with the result. After all, if a selfie is going to end up in your layouts, it has to be one worth looking back on! Blog contributor Nicole recently created a selfie scrapbook layout using the Citrus Summer collection that features two fun selfies of her and her son enjoying the beach. Check it out!

Nicole’s Inspiration

Nicole here! I had so much fun creating this fun summer layout using the fabulous Citrus Summer collection. I love the papers in this collection — they are so fresh and fun! I took these selfies a few weeks ago. It was our first semi-warm day so the little man and I went down to the beach for a few hours. He did not want to go because he was grumpy but I thought a little sunshine would brighten his mood. It didn’t… but it brightened mine!

To create this layout, you’ll need:

instructions

Step 1: To begin, I used the fruit patterned paper as my base. I used the 12-inch Trimmer to cut the red patterned paper to measure 10″ x 10″ and then mounted it to the base.

Step 2: I used Citrus Summer Variety Mats to frame two 4″ x 6″ photos and mounted them across the middle of the layout at different angles. I trimmed the “Summertime Bliss” mat down and tucked it above the first photo to use as the title for this layout. I cut a small piece from the orange mat and the pink striped mat to tuck above and below the second layout to add a few more layers.

Step 3: The Citrus Summer Stickers and Citrus Summer Embellishments in this collection are perfect! I went a little crazy with the stickers…

Step 4: I used the Lace Trim Border Punch to create a lace border to tuck under the second photo.

Step 5: To complete the layout, I used the Black Dual-Tip Pen to add a 1/2″ border around the red patterned paper. I used part of the journal mat to add a few sentences.

Whether you’re celebrating National Selfie Day or you’re just having some fun in the sun, this summer scrapbook layout will make any photo look hot, hot, hot! 1. I like the contrast of the bright colors with the black and white “usies.” (A friend once called pics with more than one person an “usie.” I thought that was cute and have been using it ever since).

  2. That is such a cute layout. The pics are adorable, and the colors are so bright and
    summery…..love it!

  3. I love this layout! So simple yet it’s so colorfully fun! The black and white photos pop off the page, that was a cleaver way to display the “usie”.
