Create Two-for-One Projects: Autumn Scrapbook Border Ideas (Part One)

Everyone is looking to get the most out of their scrapbooking supplies and use every last bit of every last piece. Nobody likes to be wasteful! That’s what today’s blog post is all about — using all the supplies in the Harvest Delight collection for multiple projects! Part one in this series features fall scrapbook border ideas for the 8×8 albums and part two will show you how to create DIY fall cards. Let’s get started!

Getting two for one is always a great thing, right? Especially when it comes to scrapbooking and project ideas!

Want an example? Start by creating a dozen borders using the bright and lush Harvest Delight collection. Then, cut them apart and use one set to decorate an adorable 8×8 Album (available for a limited time) and the other set to make a dozen fun fall-themed cards. Using the same paper and supplies for two different projects — two-for-one!

We’ll make the 12″ borders and decorate the 8×8 Album in this post, and the cards will be featured in an upcoming post.

To create these borders you’ll need:

Step One – Cut Designer Papers

Following the measurements guide and pictures, cut the pieces for all twelve borders.

Border Measurements and Ingredients

Border #1:

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ Scallop Burst strip
  • 12″ x 3/4″ floral strip
  • Red border sticker

Border #2:

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ gold strip
  • 5/8″ white leaf strip
  • 12″ x 5/8” dark green strip
  • Red Simple Leaf Chain border

Border #3:

  • 12″ x 1″ floral strip
  • Gold scallop border sticker
  • Red Songbirds border

Border #4:

  • Gold Moon & Stars Chain border

Border #5:

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ (swell cut) vine strip
  • 12″ x 1″ (swell cut) light blue strip
  • 12″ x 1″ (swell cut) dark green strip
  • Gold Flower Child border
  • Red border sticker

Border #6:

  • Red Pumpkins border

Border #7:

  • 12″ x 1-1/4″ blue striped strip

Border #9:

  • (2) 12″ x 1-1/4″ floral Scallop borders
  • 12″ x 1″ gold strip
  • 12″ x 1″ Sunshine border

Border #10:

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ red Lace Trim border
  • 12″ x 3/4″ white leaves border
  • Green border sticker
  • Gold Pumpkins border

Border #11:

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ light blue strip
  • 12″ x 1-1/4″ (Wave Blade) vine strip

  • 12″ x 1-1/2″ vine border
  • 12″ x 3/4″ red strip
  • 12″ x 1″ green plaid Heart Duet border
  • Gold scallop border sticker

With the remaining paper, cut 4″ x 12″ strips, then cut the 12″ length into 8″ and 4″ lengths. You can use a variety of designer papers for this, but ultimately you want to end up with ten 4″ x 8″ pieces for the 8×8 album and twelve 4″ x 4″ pieces for the cards (save for later).

Step Two– Assemble Borders

You now have all the ingredients to make your borders! Using the pictures as your guide, assemble the twelve 12″ borders.

Cut each border to make one 8″ border and one 4″ border. Set the 4″ borders aside.Harvest-Delight-Collection-8x8-Borders-Cards-Creative-Memories-1

Step Three – Decorate Album

Using the pictures as your guide, create the pages of your 8×8 album with the 8″ borders and the 4″ x 8″ designer paper pieces. Embellish as shown.

  1. Love these borders, very creative ideas!!! I’m so glad to see borders instead of all the wallpapering which loads down albums Keep these ideas coming. Thank you.

  2. So stinkin’ cute!!! I love this! An entire album done, and cards to boot! Love that I can switch out the papers to do this for a baby album, or December daily, or even our trip to Disney World! I will be using this a lot!!! Now, to stock up on my 8 x 8’s. . .

  3. Love these Border ideas, Krislyn! You are so very creative, and we appreciate what you share with us.
I probably will use the borders as 12” ones for my full size albums, but it’s a good idea, too, to cut them and use for 8×8’s and cards! I agree with Lori that I will use these basic border ideas with other papers and embellishments for other themes. Good idea!
Thank you. Please keep these ideas coming!

  4. I love these border ideas, and using them for multiple purposes. Really maximizes supplies! And they’re beautiful.

There’s one thing I wish. Please stop saying 8×8’s are available for a limited time. Only the coversets are limited. The pages are always available. We can work on these layouts at any time and put them in a limited-time coverset when they’re available.

    Thanks so much!

  5. These border ideas are great!!! Versatile for both 8×8 and 12×12 albums. So many options for using the whole pack of papers and embellishments. Th2snks for sharing

  6. I noticed that the supply list for the borders listed “12 inch Decorative Trimmer”; 12 inch Trimmer with straight and wave blades”. I don’t posses the “12 inch Decorative Trimmer” but do have the “12 inch Trimmer with both the blades”.

Does the “Double Wave Tearing Tool” could serve instead of the “Decorative Trimmer”?

    Thank you,
    Katrina

  7. Krislyn, thank you for creating these beautiful borders! I created them all tonight, tweaking a few based on the paper I had left. It will be great to share them in person with friends so they can see how to use SO MANY punches and border maker cartridges! As a border user, these will be wonderful to have in my stash to complete pages quickly!
