Show Your Gratitude for the Fallen with these Remembrance Day Scrapbook Layouts

On Remembrance Day, we pay our respect to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It’s an incredibly important holiday that we should all take the time to observe, even if we don’t know anyone personally who has fallen. Advisors Tammy McEwen from Canada and Jacqui Scott from Australia have a lot of respect for Remembrance Day and they chose to show their gratitude by creating these beautiful Remembrance Day scrapbook layouts. Take a look for yourself!

Tammy’s Inspiration:

Remembrance Day is a time to reflect and to remember those who gave their lives during times of war. Each Nov. in Canada, the Poppy Campaign raises funds to support veterans and their families. We wear a poppy to pay tribute to their sacrifice. I scrapbook because I want to remember all the everyday and wonderful moments in my family’s life and I am reminded each Nov. how grateful I am for the sacrifices others have made so we have the freedom to make those memories together. The poppy, a symbol of remembrance and peace, was the inspiration for this layout because of the significance it has in my life. The layout is simple, the story is for my son and the photos tie it all together.

To create this layout, you will need:

Step 1: From the Festive Plaid Paper Pack, use one red paper for the left side of the layout and one black paper for the right side of the layout.

Step 2: From a piece of White Cardstock, cut two 12″ x 8″ rectangles using the 12-inch Trimmer and the Victorian Blade. Adhere them about 1″ from the top of each page. Use the remaining White Cardstock for a journal strip on the left side of the layout and cut two borders using the Original Border Maker System and the Medallion Frame Chain Border Maker Cartridge, keeping the cut-out pieces.

Step 3: From a piece of Black Cardstock, cut a 12″ strip to layer behind the journal strip using the 12-inch Trimmer and the Victorian Blade. Cut two borders using the Original Border Maker System and the Medallion Frame Chain Border Maker Cartridge, keeping the cut-out pieces.

Step 4: From a piece of Red Cardstock, cut three borders using the Original Border Maker System and the Medallion Frame Chain Border Maker Cartridge, keeping the cut-out pieces.

Step 5: From the remaining red and black Festive Plaid papers, cut a 12″ x 8″ rectangle and adhere it to the middle of the white rectangles on opposite pages.

Step 6: To make the poppies, use the remaining red Festive Plaid patterned paper and cut squares in various sizes. Fold each one in half (using the 12″ Trimmer and the Scoring Blade, if desired) and then in half again. Fold it diagonally and cut a half circle from the open edge. Unfold it and layer larger flowers, if desired. Use the cut-out shapes from the previously-punched medallion borders as the middle of the flower and layer with Foam Squares, if desired. (The poppies shown above were made with 3-1/4″, 3″ and 2-1/4″ squares.)

Step 7: Using Repositionable adhesive, adhere the borders to the layout, as shown. Stagger the middle border, cutting the section behind the poppy so it will go edge-to-edge. Trim any edges that go off the page.

Step 8: Adhere the alternate shades of the border cut-outs inside the middle of each border using the Precision Point Adhesive Pen.

Step 9: Add photos, matting with White and Black Cardstock, if desired.

Step 10: Use White Script ABC/123 Stickers for the title and a Black Dual-Tip Pen to journal.

Jacqui’s Inspiration:

My inspiration for this project was my grandfather Jim (James). He was very secretive about his time in the Army and serving in World War II. My mum gave me his medals, which were kept in a box (unmounted), these photos and his “Key of Heaven” book, given to him by his mother. After further research and getting his medals mounted, I found out he served in three campaigns: Tobruk in 1941, Lae in 1943, then in 1944 in Borneo. This very brave man deserved to be remembered for his courageous feats in helping to give us our freedom.

To create this layout, you will need:

Step 1: Use the 12-inch Trimmer and cut two sheets of Literary Romance patterned paper to measure 8-1/4″  x 10″ and 7-1/4″ x 9-1/2″. Distress the edges and adhere them together.

Step 2: Punch two borders using the Lace Trim Border Punch and Literary Romance patterned paper. Then cut to them to measure 8-1/4″ long. Adhere them to the top and bottom of the large rectangle.

Step 3: Mount your photos with cardstock. Photos measure: (1) 6″ x 4″ (1) 3″ x 2-1/4″ and (1) 4-1/2″ x 2-1/2″.

Step 4: Using the 12-inch Trimmer, cut one square measuring 6″ x 6″ from Crimson Cardstock and one piece measuring 6″ x 6-1/2″ from Bronze Shimmer Cardstock. Using the Ornate Arches Circle Punch, create two decorative circles. Cut each one into quarters and mount the Crimson piece to the Bronze Shimmer piece using the Tape Runner.

Step 5: Adhere all pieces, as shown. Mount stickers to the cardstock and cut using All-Purpose Scissors. Punch two medallions using the same designer paper as your lace borders.

Step 6: To make the tag, use the 12-inch Trimmer and cut a 3-1/4″ x 2″ rectangle from Black Cardstock. Punch the 2″ end with the 3-in-1 Scallop Tag Punch and the other end with the Essentials 4-Way Punch on both corners. Add your sticker and strips of paper to the hole.

Step 7: To make the poppies, use Crimson Cardstock and the 12-inch Trimmer to cut a 2-1/2″ strip. Punch three tags measuring 1-1/2″ wide from the 3-in-1 Scallop Tag Punch and repeat two more times. Using your Personal Trimmer or All-Purpose Scissors, cut either end off each tag and discard the holed middle piece, as shown. Trim a triangle off the side of each of the six pieces, discard the triangles and repeat for the next two. Punch out a border from both Black and Dark Green Cardstock with the Filigree Border Punch. Using All-Purpose Scissors, cut off three of the solid flowers from the black filigree strip and three of the framed flowers from the green filigree strip.

Step 8: To assemble a poppy, take your six crimson petals, one black filigree flower bud and one green frame. Adhere three petals for the first row using Repositionable adhesive. Adhere two petals for the second row. Adhere the first and second rows together, with the second row not directly on top of the first, just slightly apart. Adhere the black flower bud to the second row and adhere the last crimson petal to the top. Trim the bottom with All-Purpose Scissors and adhere the dark green framed flower to the top. Add the artwork using your Black Dual-Tip Pen and repeat two more times so you have three poppies. Cut three strips from Dark Green Cardstock for the stems and hand-cut your leaves. Add your pen work and adhere to your page, as shown.

Step 9: Create a title. I printed mine on vellum, cut them with the 12-inch Trimmer and the Victorian Blade and adhered them to Crimson Cardstock.
