Experience Creative Thrills With These Travel Scrapbook Project Ideas

The newest travel-themed collections provide scrapbookers with so many artistic avenues, routes and takeoffs for numerous crafts and layouts. Blog contributor Sachiyo came up with some incredible travel scrapbook project ideas featuring the new Planes, Automobiles and Trains collections — take a pit stop and give them a look!

Sachiyo’s Inspiration

Although I don’t particularly love to fly, I can’t help but be in awe of it. When the plane takes off, I always feel like it’s zipping the sky open — which was my inspiration when I created this border. Here’s to hoping this zipper border will bring our projects to a whole new world!

Plane Zipper Border

Border by Sachiyo Omitsu – CM Independent Advisor

To create this border you will need:

Step 1: Using the Train Tracks Border Punch, punch a border from the Platinum Shimmer Cardstock. Cut out the middle of the border as shown above and cut the negative pieces to make a zipper pull.

Step 2: Using the 12-inch Trimmer, cut the sky patterned paper as follows: (2) pieces from the top where you see the sky measuring 3″, (2) pieces from the bottom measuring 1/4″ and (1) piece from the bottom measuring 3-1/4″. Use the 3-1/4″ piece as the base of the border.

Step 3: Adhere the 1/4″ strips to the back of the silver zipper pieces. Then, adhere the zipper pieces to the sky patterned piece and cut outside of the zipper pieces with the All-Purpose Scissors. Cut away any excess.

Step 4: Adhere the zipper piece to the brown patterned paper. Add the zipper pull pieces on the zipper. Use Foam Squares to pop it up and adhere it to the base.

Step 5: Add some embellishments and stickers as shown. Use Foam Squares on some to pop them up.

Sachiyo’s Inspiration

The Embossed Locomotive Punch reminds me of the steam locomotive we rode seven years ago when our son was a big fan of “Thomas & Friends.” When I first saw it, I was instantly reminded of the scenery from the window, the smell of coal-generated steam, the sound of the locomotive’s whistle and all those happy family memories.

Train Layout

Layout by Sachiyo Omitsu – CM Independent Advisor

To create this layout you will need:

Step 1: Use the sky patterned paper as the base of this layout.

Step 2: Using the Embossed Locomotive Punch, punch a few pieces from Platinum Shimmer and Black Cardstock. Adhere the black pieces under the Platinum Shimmer pieces to give contrast.

Step 3: With the train wheel patterned paper, cut out the stripes and beige patterned area using the 12-inch Trimmer. Align the stripe side to the 1-inch line of the trimmer and cut. Roll the train wheels patterned paper by hand as seen above. Cut the roll with the All-Purpose Scissors at approximately 1/8″ wide. Add to the base at 2-1/2″ from the top.

Step 4: Cut the cloud-shaped Laser Cut Embellishment to make smoke. Add the scenery Laser Cut Embellishment, train and smoke as shown.

Step 5: Adhere the border sticker, stickers and laser cut embellishments to the bottom as shown. Use some Foam Squares for added dimension.

Sachiyo’s Inspiration

The adorable On the Road Border Maker Cartridge got me thinking about vibrant automobiles heading to beaches, mountains, cities or any other fun destinations. I like to imagine that each car is packed with happy people chatting, laughing and maybe even singing along to the radio!

To create these borders you will need:

Step 1: Cut the blue patterned paper to make two pieces that measure 2″ x 12″ and two pieces that measure 1-3/4″ x 12″. Use the 2″ strips as the base and adhere 1-3/4″ strips to the bases with the distressed map design side up.

Step 2: Cut three strips of various patterned papers to measure 1″ x 12″. Cut these three strips each into 3″ wide segments.

Step 3: Adhere the 3″ wide segments to the base strip as shown.

Step 4: Using the On the Road Border Maker Cartridge, punch both sides and cut in half.

Step 5: Using the On the Road Border Maker Cartridge, punch two borders from the Navy Cardstock and trim it to measure 1″. Adhere it to the back of the border.

Step 6: Using the 12-inch Trimmer Stamping Blade, cut two borders to measure 3/4″ x 12″ from Rich Brown Cardstock. Add to the base as shown.

Step 7: Cut the railroad crossing sign embellishment in half using the All-Purpose Scissors. Adhere it to the bottom of the base facing the brown side up. Cut the tire marks embellishment in half and add it to the top of the base.

Step 8: Adhere stickers and embellishments, using Foam Squares on some for added dimension.
