Combine Art and Heart With These Scrapbook Border Ideas

The true mark of a creative crafter is what she’s able to do with the various tools and supplies that are nearby — especially when said scrapper is able to mix and match, blend and beckon different collections to make masterpieces that simply exude an aura of effortless elegance. Blog contributor Krislyn Mattei recently took the Art Nouveau and Love Wins collections and concocted some stunning scrapbook border ideas — check them out below and show off your own creative genius!

Krislyn’s Inspiration

Playing with the shades and patterns of new papers by making borders is one of the things I love to do the most. I love seeing how the designers created the papers to blend together. It was a fun surprise to pair Art Nouveau and Love Wins and see how well the two different collections blend with each other, too! Check out the borders I created and see if you agree.

To create these borders you’ll need:

Memories Border

Step 1: Using the 12-inch Trimmer with the Scallop Blade, cut a 12″ x 3″ strip of leaf green (Art Nouveau) paper for the base. With the 12-inch Trimmer and the Straight Blade, cut a 12″ x 2-3/4″ strip of dark small floral paper (Art Nouveau) and adhere on top of the base. Cut a 12″ x 3/4″ strip of white and leaf green foliage (Art Nouveau) paper and place about 1/4″ from the top of the dark small floral strip.

Step 2: With the Petal Frame Punch, punch a border from mustard yellow floral (Art Nouveau) paper. Trim to 12″ x 1-1/2″ and mount on the border, just below the white and leaf green foliage strip.

Step 3: With the Heart to Heart Border Punch, punch with beige (Art Nouveau) paper, and another with teal weave (Art Nouveau) paper, saving the teal cut-out hearts. Overlap the beige border over the teal border so the solid teal hearts show beneath the beige cut-out hearts. Adhere to the border as shown. With Foam Squares, adhere the teal cut-out hearts on top of the beige solid hearts.

Step 4: Add embellishments and stickers, popping some up with Foam Squares for added dimension.

My Kind of Comfort Border

Step 1: Cut a 12″ x 3″ strip of teal large floral paper (Art Nouveau) for the base. Cut a 12″ x 2-3/8″ strip of mustard yellow stripes (Art Nouveau) paper and adhere on top. Cut a 12″ x 2″ strip of beige (Art Nouveau) paper and mount on top.

Step 2: Cut a 12″ x 3″ strip of dark teal burst (Art Nouveau) paper. Punch both sides with the Baroque Frame Punch. (Tip: When punching the second side, it is helpful to place a sticky note on the right edge of the strip to add length to the strip, making it easier to position it in the punch.) Adhere to the middle of the border.

Step 3: Using the Infinity Chain Borer Maker Cartridge, punch a border with mustard yellow floral (Art Nouveau) paper. Mount in the middle of the baroque frame piece as shown.

Step 4: Add stickers and embellishments, popping some up with Foam Squares for added dimension.

Live Laugh Love Border

Step 1: Cut a 12″ x 2-1/2″ strip of leaf green (Art Nouveau) paper for the base. Cut a 12″ x 2″ strip of stripes (Love Wins) paper and adhere on top. Cut a 12″ x 1″ strip of pink (Love Wins) paper and mount on top, about 1/4″ from the top edge of the stripes piece.

Step 2: With the Heart to Heart Border Punch, punch with dark teal waves (Art Nouveau) paper. Thread a “Love” border sticker (Love Wins) through the cut-out hearts. Adhere to the middle of the pink strip. Top solid hearts with various heart stickers (Love Wins), popping them up with Foam Squares.

Step 3: Add a hearts border sticker (Love Wins) and “Live laugh love” sticker and embellishments (Art Nouveau).

Full of Love Border

Step 1: Cut a 3-1/4″ x 12″ strip of magenta (Love Wins) paper. Using the Dips & Diamonds Border Maker Cartridge (or any substitution), punch both long edges. This is the base.

Step 2: Cut a 2-1/2″ x 12″ strip of small hearts (Love Wins) paper and adhere it to the base piece so that just the scallops show. Cut a 2″ x 12″ strip of lattice hearts (Love Wins) paper and mount on top.

Step 3: With the Heart to Heart Border Punch, punch two borders with magenta (Love Wins) paper. Trim out eight sections of three hearts each. With the Infinity Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch two borders with dark teal burst (Art Nouveau) paper. Trim out seven sections. Mount these pieces along the length of the border, alternating hearts and infinity chains. Leave a little room for the title.

Step 4: Add a heart (Love Wins) and “Full of love” (Art Nouveau) stickers, popping the title up with Foam Squares.

Love Border

Step 1: With the Diamond Arches Border Punch, punch a border with pink bubbles (Love Wins) paper. Using the 12-inch Trimmer with the Scallop Blade, trim the other side so the piece measures 12″ x 2-3/4″. This is the base.

Step 2: Cut a 12″ x 2-1/4″ strip of dark teal grid of X’s and O’s (Love Wins) paper and adhere on top of the base. Add a “Love” border sticker along the bottom edge.

Step 3: With the Heart to Heart Border Punch, punch with each magenta hearts, pink bubbles and stripes (Love Wins) papers. Trim off the partial hearts on the ends of each strip. Layer and adhere, as shown, to the border. Top with a “Love” sticker with Foam Squares.

  1. Especially appreciate the 2 borders using the infinity chain. They are complex but clear. And very versatile. Thanks for sharing!
