Feel The Fiesta With This Mexico Scrapbook Layout

Hello! Or should we say, “¡Hola!” Today is all about magnificent Mexico, for there are so many excelente activities and excursions to do in this country — world-class scuba diving, climbing ancient Mayan ruins, swimming in cenotes, exploring colonial towns and indulging in the delicious local cuisine (maybe a margarita on a sandy beach, anyone?). Warm up to this Mexico scrapbook layout (it’s still winter here at CM Home Office, so we’ll take the heat!) and feel the fiesta of fun.

Kylie’s Inspiration

The beautiful hues and prints of the Mexico Theme Pack are what inspired me to create this page layout. Music and dance feature heavily in Mexican culture so I wanted to showcase this, as well as the vibrancy and richness in my single-page design. The diamond-shape blanket pattern laser-cut border really caught my eye and reminded me of lovely Mexican folk art with an Aztec or Mayan theme so I wanted this to be an added feature for both texture and hues.

To create this layout you will need:

Step 1: From red chili peppers paper trim a 2-1/2″ x 12″ strip and adhere to the top of the green cacti paper. Trim two 1/2″ x 12″ strips of the serape stripes paper. Adhere one to the very bottom of the page and the other approximately 1/2″ up from the bottom edge of the wide red chili peppers strip.

Step 2: Adhere one of the flags banner border stickers to the base of the top red chili peppers strip. Use small Foam Squares to adhere the diamond-shape blanket pattern laser-cut border to the top of the page.

Step 3: Trim a 6″ x 8″ piece of the floral paper and adhere to the right side of the page. Using Repositionable Tape Runner, adhere the “Mexico” laser-cut border to the top edge of the serape stripes paper at the base of the page.

Step 4: From the red chili peppers/serape stripes paper, cut three ovals using the inside edge of the second-largest Custom Cutting System Oval Pattern and Red Blade. From the floral paper, cut one oval the same size. Using a scissors, cut the top and bottom from one of the ovals on the serape stripes side and adhere each of them to the top of the two ovals, with red chili peppers side facing up. Cut the top and bottom from the remaining floral oval and adhere both to the bottom of the red ovals. Add a decorative edge by adhering the flag banner border sticker and trimming away any excess.

Step 5: From Autumn Hay Shimmer Solid Cardstock (or similar), cut two strips to measure 1″ x 3″. Place one end of each strip aligned in the 2-Way Corner Rounder and punch to curve the bottom edge. Using a scissors, carefully shape each side inward a little to form the shape of handles on maracas. Adhere these over the bottom edge of each oval. Add each maraca to the bottom-left corner of the page, overlapping each other. Foam Squares can be used on the top maraca for added dimension.

Step 6: From the Aqua Solid Cardstock, cut three photo mats to measure two 6″x 4″ and one 4″x 4″. Trim photos to measure two 5-3/4″ x 3-3/4″’ and one 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″. Adhere the photos to the mats before adding them to the layout.

Step 7: Finish the page by adding stickers with Foam Squares for added dimension.
