The Sky Is The Limit With This Outdoor Themed Scrapbook Layout

Making and throwing paper airplanes is an exciting and engineering activity that many kids enjoy doing — whether then hurling down the hallway in your house or taking to new heights outside in the backyard! In fact, blog contributor Krislyn Mattei has soared to new scrapbooking stylings by drawing her own paper airplanes with a Micro-Tip Pen for an airy and artsy project! Ready for takeoff? Then take a peek at this outdoor themed scrapbook layout and imagine what photos and memories you would showcase — the sky is the limit!

To create this layout you will need:

Step 1: Use a piece of grass designer paper as the base for this layout. (To save paper, you may wish to cut out the inside of this piece using the 12-inch Trimmer.) Cut a piece of White Solid Cardstock to 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″ and mount on the base. Using the Black Micro-Tip Pen, draw lines around the outside of the cardstock.

Step 2: Using the swell edge of the 12-inch Decorative Trimmer, cut out several 11-1/2″ x 1/2″ ribbons of dusty sky blue dots and wildlife and wildflower silhouettes designer paper. (Tip: To get the ribbon effect, make one cut with the paper aligned at the top of the trimmer and the next cut with the paper aligned at the bottom of the trimmer.) Adhere to the border as shown.

Step 3: Cut an 11-1/2″ x 1/2″ strip of hand-painted shrub stripes designer paper and adhere to the bottom of the white piece. Top with a butterflies border sticker.

Step 4: Adhere two 5″ x 3-3/4″ photos to the layout. Mat a 4″ x 5″ photo with a 4-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ piece of peach stripes tonal paper. Draw lines around the photo. Mount on the layout.

Step 5: Tuck a journal box embellishment behind the matted photo. Using the inside edge of the smallest Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern, cut a peach tonal stripes circle using the Red Blade and a honey yellow tonal stripes circle using the Green Blade. Mount both on a journal box. Draw sun rays all around the circle. Journal as desired.

Step 6: Using the inside of the medium Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern, cut a honey yellow tonal stripes circle using the Red Blade and a peach tonal stripes circle using the Green Blade. Mount both on the layout as shown and top with a title sticker using Foam Squares.

Step 7: Draw several paper airplanes on White Solid Cardstock. Trim out with scissors and mount on the layout. Doodle as desired.

Step 8: Using the inside of the smallest Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern, cut a peach tonal stripes circle using the Green Blade and honey yellow stripes and leaf green tonal stripes circles using the Blue Blade. Adhere the cluster to the bottom of the layout and top with bee stickers.

What do you think of the hand-drawn dart paper airplanes? Will you be making this outdoor themed scrapbook layout soon?

  1. What a happy page, Krislyn! Inspiration, for sure.
I have to laugh at myself, though, because when I first saw the page, and especially the paper airplanes, I thought, “Wait……did I somehow miss paper airplane embellishments???” I have g’kids who are five years old, and BOTH absolutely love folding, flying, and playing with paper airplanes!
But, DUH…what a simple embellishment to draw and cut! Thanks for the idea. I’ll use it for sure.
