Chroma Crush: Tonal Scrapbook Layout

Reds, pinks, oranges — they are vibrant, warm hues which means they’re all best friends on the color wheel! Blog contributor Sachiyo Omitsu mixed in these sizzling shades to create a tonal scrapbook layout that we’re totally crushin’ on!

Pink and red scrapbook layout.

To create this layout you will need:

Step 1: Cut out a 1/2” width frame (A) from a piece of Black Solid Cardstock. Trim the square piece to
measure 10-3/4” x 10-3/4” (B). Cut a piece of White Solid Cardstock to measure 11-3/4” x 11-3/4” and cut out a 1” width frame (C). Cut another piece of White Solid Cardstock to measure 10-1/2” x 10-1/2” and cut out a 1” width frame (D). Trim the square piece to measure 8-1/4” x 8-1/4” (E).

Step 2: Cut seven 1” wide strips from various papers. Cut each strip into 1” square pieces. Adhere the square pieces to the frame C and D, spacing approximately 1/16” each other.

Step 3: Adhere the larger frame (C) to the frame A. Add the piece B and then the smaller frame (D). Add the piece E on the top.

Step 4: Cut two mats to measure 4” x 6” and one mat to measure 3-1/2” x 3-1/2” from a piece of Red Solid Cardstock. Cut two mats to measure 3-7/8” x 5-7/8” and one mat to measure 3-3/8” x 3-3/8” from a piece of Soft Pink Solid Cardstock. Add to the red mats.

Step 5: Cut a piece of orange crosshatch paper to measure 4-1/2” x 3” and cut the end to make a banner shape. Draw stitch line with the Black Micro-Tip Pen. Use this piece for journal.

Step 6: Adhere stickers, mats and journal piece, using Foam Squares on some for added dimension.

  1. It looks amazing!
I will probably never make it, though, unless I use a lot of scraps and have time to do it. It takes so much time to cut all those pieces, then put them all back together.

  2. I love this page. Wondering if there are tips on cutting the ‘frame’ pieces out. …..? Carefully? Lol. I will give this a try. Thanks

  3. You could adjust this layout by making just a portion of it into a 2 page layout. Make just the outer frame for the left side and then the right side page could be a border strip of desired width using the 1 inch pieces. Incorporate black if desired to carry over the portion of the black frame that is visible. See the top 2 photos just under Step 2. You could also cut an angle cut across opposite corners the first decorated frame and use each half on each facing page. You could also make the smaller version one to fit an 8×8 page* or if adding in an 8×8 page between two 12×12 facing pages. Also experiment using foam squares/tape to give the smaller frame depth. I always try to see if there are ways to utilize portions of blog sketches and layouts for border ideas or just to simplify the amazing ideas or to extend across 2 pages if its a 1 page sketch/layout. This page idea is a great way to use so many of our scraps, too! Thank you Sachiyo!! * The cutting would need to be adjusted as the size of the smaller white square (#E) is 8.25×8.25. I haven’t done this layout so I’m just making guesstimates.

  5. LOVE THIS!! It’s so vibrant and could be done with any scraps or papers. I’m going to try it!
