Make Melodious Music Themed Scrapbook Layouts with the Essentials Collection

Music is a crazy thing. A song has the ability to transport you back to a certain time and place and make you feel incredibly nostalgic. The parallels between music and the Essentials collection was clear to blog contributor Sachiyo, which is why she felt it would be perfect for creating a layout for her trip to the Motown Museum. Check out the modern yet vintage scrapbook layout she made!

Blog Contributor Sachiyo’s Inspiration:

Do you remember what the very first disc or CD you got in your life was? For me, it’s Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous.” I still remember the day my grandma bought me the CD at a local music store. Since then, I have been a big fan of Michael Jackson. This summer, I finally had a chance to visit the Motown Museum in Detroit. All the photographs in the museum were black and white but I saw a colorful world filled with music.

When I first saw the Essentials collection, I immediately came up with this star layout.
It may look complicated, but all you need is papers and a Straight Trimmer (oh, and don’t forget Foam Squares!).

To create this two-page layout, you will need:

Step 1: Use two pieces of black star patterned paper as the base for this two-page layout.

Step 2: To create the star pieces, cut five strips of foiled patterned paper that measure 1″ x 12″. Then, take those stripes and trim to make them 3″ in length.

Step 3: Mark at 1-5/8 inches from the top of the pieces and cut out triangles. Set aside the upper triangles (1) for later use.

Step 4: Flip 10 pieces of the middle triangles (2) and adhere all the pieces to your page. Repeat for the second star.

Step 5: Adhere six pieces of the upper triangles (1) with Foam Squares to the layout. Repeat for the second shape.

Step 6: Cut two pieces of striped foil paper to measure 10″ x 4″. Then, cut the paper at 30° and then into several pieces at varying widths and heights.

Step 7: For the photo mats, cut four pieces of blue patterned paper to measure 6-1/4″ x 4-1/4″. Photo sizes will be (1) 6″ x 4″ and (3) 4″ x 6″. Adhere the photos to the mats and then to the layout as shown.

Step 8: Adhere stickers using Foam Squares on some for added dimension and journal as desired.

Creating a museum scrapbook layout with the Essentials collection is a great way to pay homage to the past by utilizing vintage themes and ideas in a playful way. Whether it’s trips to the museum, a concert or hearing one of your favorite songs for the first time in a while, the Essentials collection will help you document your trips down memory lane. 1. -I love Creative Memories and am definitely into music, however, you continuously have everything on the large album, and I truly prefer the smaller ones. Let me know when you have some new ideas with the smaller ones, 8×10 and down!

    1. I am not familiar with 8 x 10 albums, I’ve done 8 x 8’s and I took the 12 x 12 pages and used the same layout idea and scaled it to 8 x 8. If pics were larger and took up more of page, I had less background space & used smaller stars / embellishments.

In my case all my 8 x 8 page ideas came from 12 12 page ideas. Hope that helps… k

  2. This was a timely layout, I’ve been trying to find ideas for scrapbook pictures from a musical. I’m going to order the “Essentials Collection”.
