Create Simple Yet Stunning Layouts Thanks to these Basic Scrapbooking Border Recipes

A good scrapbook border is what separates a good layout from a great layout. It emphasizes the theme of the layout, adds some extra color and ties the page together as a whole. There are many different borders that you can make that work for a variety of themes by using your favorite CM products. Blog contributor Krislyn recently took on the Basics to Scrapbooking Border Recipe, and she realized just how easy it is to make these beautiful borders. Read on to learn how to create simple scrapbook borders!

To create these borders you’ll need:

• Gather Together Paper Pack, Stickers and Embellishments
• Essentials Tone-on-Tone Paper Pack, Accent Paper Pack and Stickers
• Fanatic Paper Pack, Stickers and Embellishments
• Original Border Maker System with Garland, Stars, Double Chevrons, Pumpkins, Camera Chain, Dancing Daisies, Button Chain and Zig Zag Border Maker Cartridges
• 12-inch Straight Trimmer
• All-Purpose Scissors
• Tape Runner with Repositionable Tape Runner Refill
• Foam Squares

Block Border Recipe

Highlight several coordinating designer papers by placing 2″ squares side by side and a see-through border design on top. Below are a few examples!

Step 1: Cut a 2-3/4″ x 12″ strip of paper for the base.

Step 2: Cut six 2″ x 2″ squares of at least three different paper designs and mount, alternating designs, on the base strip.

Step 3: Punch a border with the Border Maker System and trim (if necessary) to about 1-1/8″ wide. Place along the center of the border.

Step 4: Embellish as desired.

Half & Half Border Recipe

Place a punched border design on top of two contrasting designer papers for a simple dramatic effect. Below are a few examples!

 

 

Step 1: Cut a 2-3/4″ x 12″ strip of paper for the base.

Step 2: Cut a 1-1/4″ x 12″ strip and a 1″ x 12″ strip of contrasting designer papers. Adhere side by side on the base.

Step 3: Punch a border with the Border Maker System and mount along the center of the border, just over the wider of the side by side strips.

Step 4: Embellish as desired.

 

 

 

Flags Border Recipe

Add flags to a layered border and lend a festive feel to any page layout. Below are a few examples!

 

Step 1: Cut a 2-1/2″ x 12″ strip of paper for the base.

Step 2: Cut a 1-3/4″ x 12″ strip and a 1-1/4″ x 12″ strip of contrasting designer papers. Mount both strips on the base with the narrowest strip on top.

Step 3: Punch a border with the Border Maker System (or use a border sticker instead). Place along the center of the border.

Step 4: Cut three small strips (1-1/4″ to 1-1/2″ wide and about 1-1/2″ to 2″ long) with contrasting designer papers. To make the flag shapes, lightly fold (don’t crease) one end of each strip in half lengthwise and snip at an angle with scissors. Overlap slightly and adhere along one side of the border as shown. You may also substitute flag stickers.

Step 5: Embellish as desired.

These basic scrapbook borders may look complex, but in reality they’re quite easy to make! They’re a fun way to tie any page together and drive home the theme of the layout.
