Overalls — a classic and timeless staple that has transcended time and generations, from their original roots as durable adult workwear (hardworking farmers, railroad workers and fisherpeople) to free-spirited folks with a bit of bell-bottom flair, nostalgic memories as a kiddo running around the backyard or even the primetime of the hip-hop ‘90s scene with only one strap fastened. No matter the era, overalls are still trendy and remain a mainstay! Blog contributor Sachiyo Omitsu was reminiscing on a memory featuring this one-piece outfit, which made way for this fashion statement — an overalls scrapbook layout!
Sachiyo’s Inspiration
Denim overalls remind me of a funny memory from my childhood at the World Design Expo back in 1989. At one of the pavilions, they displayed wax sculptures that looked so realistic. People were oohing and aahing over the well-made sculptures. Among the exhibits, we found a picnic table with a man in denim overalls with his face down on the table. This man also looked so real — my sister and I were impressed and admired the art of wax moulding and patted him on the shoulder. Well, it turned out that he was a real man who was just taking a nap. I still giggle like a little girl every time I see denim overalls.

Step 1: Use a piece of the multi-hued tie-dye stripes designer paper as the base of this layout.
Step 2: Cut the seersucker denim texture tonal paper to measure 9-1/2″ x 12″. Measure 3″ from the top-right corner and cut a 1″ long slit. Place the large heart Custom Cutting System Gemstone Pattern to merge with the slit as shown and cut a side of the front panel with the Red Blade. Draw stitching lines with the Brown Dual-Tip Pen. Add to the base.
Step 3: Cut a 1-1/2” strip from Bronze Shimmer Solid Cardstock and punch one end with the 3-in-1 Bevel Tag Punch. Cut the punched end to 1″ width to make an overall buckle. Repeat the same step to make another buckle. Cut two 1-1/2″ x 1/4″ pieces of Bronze Shimmer Solid Cardstock. Add the buckle pieces to a denim laser-cut border as shown. Add to the base with Foam Squares and trim the excess. Add enamel stickers to make “buttons.”
Step 4: Cut a mat from Charcoal Solid Cardstock to measure 4″ x 6″. Trim the “Denim is always in style” mat to measure 3-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ and mount on top of the cardstock. Add to the page.
Step 5: Cut three mats to measure 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ from Light Gray Cardstock. Draw stitching lines with the Brown Dual-Tip Pen. Add to the page.
Step 6: Adhere stickers and embellishments, using Foam Squares on some for added dimension.

Hi Ali.
I sure wish they had added in the instructions to turn the paper vertically and cut 9 1/2 inches. I’ve wasted four sheets of paper.
