Happy Hues Fast2Fab™ Border Formula

Make a complete set of coordinating borders to punch up your Happy Hues Fast2Fab™ Refill Pages with minimal supplies! This border formula can be adapted to suit ANY theme by using different paper packs, chain-style Border Maker Cartridges and embellishments. It’s great for Intermediate to Advanced scrapbookers!

To create these borders you will need:

Divide your 12×12 paper pack (Sweet Summer Paper Pack shown in example) into two sets of six, so that the same six paper designs are in each set. Cut the first set of six papers as instructed in the images and/or video below. You can also download the handout here. If desired, the second set of six papers can be used to cut mats for your photos.

Watch this tutorial video from Krislyn Mattei to see how to create the individual border pieces you’ll need for this project!

1. Punch first border.
2. Punch second border.
3. Fold remaining paper in half.
4. Align unfolded edge along the edge of the wavy piece (3″ mark) of the 12-inch Decorative Trimmer. Cut.
5. Rotate so the folded edge is now on the left. Place the top of waves at the 1″ mark. Cut.
6. Place the top of the waves at the edge of the swell piece. Cut once.
7. Place the top of the waves at the edge of the swell piece. Cut again.
8. Place the top of the waves at the edge of the swell piece. Cut a third time.
9. Place the top of the waves at the 1″ mark. Cut once.
10. Place the top of the waves at the 1″ mark. Cut again.
11. Unfold the remaining piece. Cut in half on the fold line.
When finished cutting each paper, your border pieces will look like this.

Mix and match the pieces endlessly with the Happy Hues Fast2Fab™ Refill Pages to create fantastic new border designs! Use the remaining six papers from the pack as photo mats or journal boxes and decorate as desired. Add stickers and embellishments, mounting some with Foam Squares to make ’em pop. Each layout will be unique, fun and oh-so-easy to put together!

Below are some ideas to get you started. Krislyn created borders on each of the four layout designs in the Happy Hues Fast2Fab™ Refill Pages (see reference photo below) using the pieces cut following the steps above. There are enough pieces cut to assemble all 16 layouts, allowing for variations, etc.

NOTE: The photos show several photo mats on each layout just to give an idea for photo placement. However, if this many mats were used on these four layouts, they would run out quickly. Realistically, only 2-4 mats can be used per two-page spread by using the leftover six sheets of paper to cut (4) 4″x6″ and (3) 4″x4″ mats cut from each sheet. If you’d like to use more mats, you may wish to use a second paper pack.

Layout 1

Step 1: Choose a two-page layout that features layered waves on either the sides, tops or bottoms of the pages.

Step 2: Layer 3/8” strips on 5/8” strips and adhere on the preprinted layered waves.

Step 3: On the opposite edges, adhere large wave borders about 1” from the page edge. Adhere 3/8” strips beside them. Add border stickers along the edges of the borders.

Step 4: Add photos, matting some as desired. Decorate with embellishments and stickers, popping some up with Foam Squares for added dimension.

Layout 2

Step 1: Choose a two-page layout with horizontal wavy borders at either the top or bottom.

Step 2: Adhere 5/8” wavy strips on the middles of the preprinted borders. Top with sea star borders, or whichever chain BMC you chose to use.

Step 3: Adhere 5/8” wave borders on the opposite edges. Add 3/8” wavy borders above and below them.

Step 4: Add photos, matting some as desired. Use a 4” x 4” mat as a title or journal box. Decorate with embellishments and stickers.

Layout 3

Step 1: Choose a two-page layout with preprinted wavy corners.

Step 2: Adhere borders with a straight edge about 1/4″ from two adjacent corners, following the preprinted waves (like the bottom ones above). Adhere sea star borders along the straight edges. Using Micro-Tip Scissors, trim off the excess.

Step 3: Layer 3/8” and 5/8” wave strips on the other corners (like the top ones, above). Trim off the excess.

Step 4: Add photos, matting some as desired. Decorate with embellishments and stickers, popping some up with Foam Squares for dimension.

Layout 4

Step 1: Choose a two-page layout that has vertical pre-printed borders on either the inner or outer sides.

Step 2: Adhere hourglass strips about 1/4″ from the edges of the preprinted wavy borders. Adhere 3/8” strips next to them, leaving a 1/4″ space. Adhere border stickers along the preprinted borders.

Step 3: Add photos, matting some as desired. Use two of the 4” x 4” mats as journal boxes. Decorate with embellishments and stickers.
