Project Idea: Pop-Up Christmas Card

Once again, ’tis the season to send some fun greetings to your family and friends, and who doesn’t love a handmade card? This fun pop-up card (another variation of it was shown in Stefani Jones’ blog) is totally unique, and it’s actually quite simple to create. Really! And the best part is that you can also simply swap out papers and stickers later, too, and create fun birthday cards, Mother’s Day cards, etc. Easy peezy!

Here’s what you’ll need to create it:

First, cut a piece of white cardstock to measure 12″ x 6″. Remove the blade from your Paper Trimmer, then insert the paper into the trimmer with one edge at the 2″ mark. Flip down blade rails, then run Multi-Purpose Tool along blade groove on trimmer to score the card at 2″.

Step1

Lift rail and move edge of card to 4″ edge and repeat, scoring the card at 4″. Rotate paper 180 degrees, then repeat to score the paper at 2″ and 4″ from the other edge.

Remove paper from trimmer, then replace blade.

Insert scored paper into trimmer. Measuring 1-1/2″ from long edge of paper, cut from first 2″ score line to the other 2″ score line. Rotate paper and repeat along opposite long edge of paper.

Step2

Begin folding along score lines from left to right as shown in photo below.

Step3

After card has been folded as shown here, if you fold it completely closed, it should look like this:

Step4

Cut strips of each patterned paper as follows: (2) plaid to measure 1-1/2″ x 5″, (2) green to measure 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ and (2) red to measure 3-1/2″ x 1″. Adhere to card as shown here:

Step6

Finish card by adhering stickers, then add your personalized message to the white areas, or add additional paper to those areas for even more decoration.

As noted above, this card structure can be used for other themes. For example:

Happy cardmaking! :D

  1. Thank you for sharing your card idea and the link to the CM Holiday Blog Hop. Awesome ideas from everyone!

  2. This card style is so creative. Thank you for sharing it with us. I wish there was a pdf of it.

  3. I have found that if I fold in the two 4″ sides first and then fold the 2″ creases to them, the card folds perfectly every time. I was having trouble with the folds not being exactly “right on” and then creasing in the wrong places, wrinkling the papers.
