Besides some of the best basic scrapbooking tools on the market today, Creative Memories also offers some super cool tools for dressing up your scrapbook layouts. Creative Memories basic tools includes All-Purpose Scissors, the Multi-Purpose Tool, the 12-Inch Straight Trimmer, and the Personal Trimmer. The Personal Trimmer can’t be beat for trimming photos and Slide-in Cards. I also use my Personal Trimmer to cut squares, rectangles and triangles to enhance my scrapbook pages. My 12-Inch Straight Trimmer is an essential that I use most often when I’m scrapbooking. In addition to these basic CM tools, the Two-Way Corner Rounder, the Border Maker System, CM Punches and the Custom Cutting System are great for enhancing your scrapbook layouts. In this two part series I’ll share some of my favorite tools to use on my travel and vacation layouts. In today’s post I’ll start with layouts I created with the beautiful new Cool Serenity Collection.
I used CM’s Two-Way Corner Rounder in addition to basic tools to enhance my first scrapbook layout. I love the old postcard look that the corner rounder creates with my photos.
Here’s what you’ll need to create this layout:
- Cool Serenity Paper Pack
- Travel Solid 12 x 12 Cardstock
- Cool Serenity Embellishments
- Cool Serenity Stickers
- Cool Serenity Slide-in Pack
- All Purpose Scissors
- Personal Trimmer
- 12-Inch Straight Trimmer
- Two-Way Corner Rounder
- Black Dual-tip Pen
- Tape Runner
- Foam Squares
Step 1: Using the 12-inch Straight Trimmer, cut one 4 1/2″ x 12″ piece from light teal pattern paper, one 7 1/2″ x 12″ piece from dark teal pattern paper, and one 1″ x 12″ strip from sand cardstock. Adhere light teal pattern paper to left edge of left page. Tear one side of sand strip and adhere to edge of light teal pattern paper as shown. Adhere dark teal pattern paper as shown. Use dark teal pattern paper as base for the right page.
Step 2: Using the 12-inch Straight Trimmer to cut sand cardstock, cut two 1/2″ x 12″ strips, two 4 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ photo mats, one 6 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ rectangle, and one 1″ x 5″ strip. Use scissors to cut a “V” into one end of 1″ x 5″ strip. Tear both sides of a 12″ strip of light teal pattern paper to measure 1 1/4″ wide.
Step 3: Using the Two-Way Corner Rounder, round corners of photos and photo mats. Mat two horizontal photos and adhere to right page as shown. Adhere two horizontal photos to 6 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ sand rectangle and adhere to right page as shown. Adhere vertical photo as shown.
Step 4: Layer one 1/2″ x 12″ sand strip over torn light teal pattern paper. Adhere to right page as shown. Adhere second 1/2″ x 12″ strip to left page as shown. Adhere 1″ x 5″ strip to left page as shown.
Step 5: Using the Personal Trimmer, cut journal card from slide-in card as shown. Use corner rounder to round corners. Ink edges with round tip of Black Dual-tip pen if desired. Journal your story and adhere to page. Use tape runner and foam squares to adhere title and embellishments as shown.
I enjoy creating fun contrasting edges on my scrapbook layouts! My next layout illustrates how I use CM’s Border Maker System with the Button Chain cartridge to create one of my favorite paper edges. I also used CM’s Custom Cutting System with the Circle Patterns to create a pop of color under my title.
Here’s what you’ll need to create this layout:

- 12-inch Straight Trimmer
- Personal Trimmer

Step 1: Using the 12-inch Straight Trimmer, cut two 9″ x 12″ pieces from blue plaid pattern paper, two 1 1/4″ x 12″ strips from sand pattern paper, two 1 3/4″ x 12″ strips from sand pattern paper, one 3 1/2″ x 12″ strip from sand cardstock and one 3″ x 12″ strip from blue pattern paper. Adhere the 1 3/4″ x 12″ strips to the top of each page as shown and the 1 1/4″ x 12″ strips to the bottom of each page.
Step 2: Using the Border Maker System and the Button Chain Cartridge, punch 4 button chain borders from blue pattern paper. Adhere borders to the underside of the 9″ x 12″ pieces as shown. Make sure the top paper just covers the button holes. Adhere to pages as shown.
Step 3: Layer 3″ x 12″ strip over 3 1/2″ x 12″ cardstock and adhere to left page as shown.

Use foam squares to adhere the shell and title sticker. Use the tape runner and foam squares to adhere embellishments shown to the right page.

Sorry, but almost everything you do involves the 12×12 albums, and I just don’t like the big ones. More of a medium/small lover! Let me know when you have them and the supplies on sale. Thanks!
