Embrace the New Season With These Spring Scrapbook Spreads

A change of season is like a change of scenery — it’s an inspiring breath of fresh air that can give you a creative kickstart. Take a look at how the change of seasons inspired blog contributor Krislyn Mattei’s creative process and how it led her to design two innovative and crisp spring scrapbook spreads!

Krislyn’s Inspiration:

I’ll admit it… I’m a little bit ready for spring! Here in Minnesota, I start longing for the warm breezes and green grass around New Year’s Day! It’s no wonder that the fresh shades and patterns of the Spring Medley collection grabbed me the instant I saw them.

I created the first layout below using pictures of early spring last year — it was the kind of day in March that teases you into believing that spring has sprung! Year after year, I fall for that trick. For this layout, I used three pieces of beautiful Spring Medley paper, the new Baroque Frame Punch and, of course, the wonderful Spring Medley Fast2Fab™ Refill Pages to create my layout.

The pieces that remained after I was finished were just perfect for decorating a second layout. I added one more piece of paper and one variety mat and created a layout with pictures from the end of our short summer last year from the same part of downtown Duluth, Minn. The warm season comes and goes fast around here, but the days are simply sublime!

To create these layouts you’ll need:

Spring Memories Layout

Step 1: Use the Spring Medley Fast2Fab™ pages pictured above for this layout.

Step 2: Use the navy tone-on-tone paper, leafy green designer paper and medium blue designer paper. Cut each sheet into three 4″ x 12″ strips. With two strips of each paper, cut into one 4″ x 4″ piece and one 4″ x 8″ piece. Reserve the remaining strip of each paper for Step 4.

Step 3: Using the Baroque Frame Punch, punch each edge of the four 4″ squares of navy and leafy green to make four baroque shapes. Cut each shape in half. (NOTE: Save the two 4″ x 4″ medium blue squares and the small 1″ square pieces that remain after the shapes are punched for the next layout!)

Step 4: Cut the remaining 4″ x 12″ strip of each paper into two 2″ x 12″ pieces. Flip the medium blue paper to the back side (light green flecked) and leave as is. Cut the other four pieces into 1″ x 12″ strips, as shown.

Step 5: Assemble the border. Adhere the navy strips, then the leafy green strips behind the 2″ x 12″ strips. Top with baroque halves as shown. Mount on the top of the layout.

Step 6: Punch each of the six 4″ x 8″ pieces as follows: With the Baroque Frame Punch, punch the top, then each adjacent side, leaving the bottom uncut. Adhere 3-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ photos to each shape, using the photo as a guide. Place on the layout as shown.

Step 7: Add stickers and journal as desired.

The Good Life Layout

Step 1: Use the Spring Medley Fast2Fab™ pages pictured above for this layout.

Step 2: Using the Spring Leaf Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch two borders with light coral patterned paper. Cut a 1-1/4 ” x 12″ strip of white checked tone-on-tone paper. Adhere the Spring Medley borders behind this strip so just one row of scallops shows on each side.

Step 3: Cut a 1″ x 12″ strip of cardstock. Adhere 1″ squares saved from the first layout along the strip as shown. Trim edges as needed. Adhere to the border and then place the border on the right side of the layout. Add stickers.

Step 4: Punch the two saved 4″ x 4″ medium blue squares with the Baroque Frame Punch. Adhere one to the circular shape on the left side of the layout, and the other to the upper right side of the layout. Top with stickers and embellishments as shown.

Step 5: Mat a 4″ x 6″ photo with a medium blue 4-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ mat and mount on the left side of the layout. Mount six 5-1/4″ x 4″ photos on the layout.

Step 6: Journal as desired.

  1. These are beautiful layouts ! Love the colors and great ideas for use of the Baroque Border. May need to get me one of those !

  2. Given the current ordering situation, why not use sketches and show how different ones have used those with older paper on the blog.

Ie: I’m safe at home and I used this sketch and paper already here to do this…

    1. Hi there – We are posting some sketch inspiration as well! Some people might have this product so we are trying to post a variety of ideas. Save the ideas you like and you can order when we are back up and running!

  3. Do you have the baroque punch? I’d do I can pick it up is the other supplies come in.

    Thanks Sue
