Keep Cool With These Summer Scrapbook Projects

The basic umbrella was invented more than 4,000 years ago and its early use has links back to Egypt, China and Greece, protecting people from the sun’s powerful rays and to provide shade. (And the word “umbrella” actually derives from the Latin word “umbra,” meaning shadow!) Even today, people use umbrellas or parasols to provide a bit of cooling relief during summertime (not just a rainy day item!). Well, if you want to cast some shade on your next creations, then take a look at these summer scrapbook ideas — we forecast a 100% chance of having a great time making them!

Sandy Toes Border

Step 1: Cut a piece of pineapple grid designer paper to measure 2-3/4″ x 12″. 

Step 2: Cut a piece of grass green backyard dandelions designer paper to measure 2-1/2″ x 12″. Adhere to the base.

Step 3: Cut a piece of blue waves designer paper to measure 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″. Adhere at an angle to the lower portion of the border.

Step 4: Cut four pieces of Light Blue Solid Cardstock to measure 2″ x 2″. Cut four pieces of White Solid Cardstock to measure 1-3/4″ x 1-3/4″. Adhere to the top of the light blue pieces. Adhere these pieces to the blue waves piece.

Step 5: Punch four umbrellas from various papers. Adhere to the white pieces.

Step 6: Adhere stickers.

Every Summer Has A Story Card

Step 1: Use a blank card from the Blank Card Kit for the base. 

Step 2: Cut a piece of dark blue starry night sky designer paper to measure 4″ x 5-1/4″. Adhere to the card.

Step 3: Cut a piece of blue waves designer paper to measure 3-3/4″ x 5″. Adhere to the card.

Step 4: Cut two pieces of watermelon seeds designer paper to measure 4″ x 1/4″. Adhere to the card.

Step 5: Cut a piece of pineapple grid designer paper to measure 4″ x 1-1/4″. Adhere to the card.

Step 6: Cut a piece of beach towel stripes paper to measure 3-3/4″ x 1″. Adhere to the pineapple grid paper. 

Step 7: Cut sunglasses laser-cut border into 3-3/4″ segments. Adhere to the beach towel stripes paper.

Step 8: To create the “flower:” Cut a piece of White Solid Cardstock to measure 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″. Using the Striped Umbrella Punch, punch eight umbrellas from pineapple grid designer paper. Adhere the “handles” of the umbrellas to the cardstock as shown.

Step 9: Cut a piece of White Solid Cardstock to measure 1″ x 1″. Using the Striped Umbrella Punch, punch eight umbrellas from watermelon seeds designer paper. Adhere to the cardstock as shown previously. Layer watermelon seeds pieces on top of pineapple grid. Adhere to the card.

Step 10: Adhere the “Every summer has a story” sticker as a sentiment.

At the Beach Border

Step 1: Cut a piece of dark blue starry night sky designer paper to measure 12″ x 2-3/4″ for the base of the border.

Step 2: Cut a piece from Light Blue Solid Cardstock to measure 12″ x 2-1/2″ with the 12-inch Trimmer and Wave Blade. Adhere to the border.

Step 3: Cut a piece of beach towel stripes designer paper to measure 12″ x 2-1/4″. Adhere to the border.

Step 4: Cut five circles from the dark blue starry night sky designer paper using the inside edge of the medium Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern with the Green Blade. Cut five circles from the word art designer paper using the inside edge of the medium Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern with the Blue Blade. Adhere to the dark blue starry night sky circles. Then adhere to the border using Foam Squares for added dimension. 

Step 5: Using the Striped Umbrella Punch, punch five umbrellas from various papers. Save the punched inside cutouts as well. Adhere the umbrellas to the middle of the circles. Adhere the inside pieces from another punched piece to the umbrella. 

Step 6: Adhere stickers.
