Ring In Another Year With These New Year Borders

Every year as the clock strikes midnight and turns the calendar page from December to January, we bid a collective farewell to the departing year and express anticipation and hope for what’s ahead. And whether you welcome 2023 with a glitzy, over-the-top bash with glittery backdrops and props or a low-key night watching the ball drop on your TV, New Year’s is always a time to remember. So once the end-of-the-year snapshots are taken, rally together your celebratory craft supplies and make these New Year borders.

Happy New Year, scrappers!

To create these borders you will need:

Live Joyfully Border

New Year's themed scrapbook border with champagne bottle punch outs and stickers.

Step 1: Using the 12-inch Trimmer and the Scallop Blade, cut a 12″ x 3-1/4″ strip with hexagons paper for the base. With the 12-inch Trimmer and the Straight Blade, cut a 12″ x 3/4″ strip with white bubbles paper and adhere 1/4″ from the top edge of the base. Cut a 12″ x 2″ strip with black dashes paper and adhere 1/4″ from the bottom edge of the base. Cut a 12″ x 1/4″ strip with gold lined paper and adhere 1/8″ from the bottom edge of the black dashes strip.

Step 2: Using the Double Fan Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch a border with gold organic lines paper. Using a Micro-Tip Scissors, trim off the top scallops. Adhere along the seam between the white and black strips.

Step 3: Using the Champagne Toast Punch, punch with hexagons paper. Trim off the bases and rotate to create champagne bottles. Flip some over to the gold polka dots side. Adhere as shown beneath the “spray” of the double fan punch-out.

Step 4: Using the inside edge of the medium Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern and the Red Blade, cut a circle with gold organic lines paper. Adhere on the border. Top with the “Live joyfully” embellishment.

Celebrate Border

Silver and gold vertical scrapbook border using the Damask Flourish Frame Punch and stickers.

Step 1: Cut a 3-1/4″ x 12″ strip with slate mini dots paper for the base. Cut a 2-3/8″ x 12″ strip with gray stripes paper and adhere on the base, about 1/4″ from the left edge.

Step 2: Using the Damask Flourish Frame Punch, punch a border with gold organic lines paper, first aligning it at a black line on the front of the punch. Trim out to 1″ x 12″ and adhere it along the left edge of the stripes piece.

Step 3: Punch another border using black decorative half-circles paper, this time aligning it on a silver line on the arm of the punch. Trim out to 1-3/4″ x 12″. Adhere it along the right edge of the stripes piece. Tuck a foliage border sticker behind it and place a zigzag border sticker on top.

Step 4: Adhere embellishments.

New Year Countdown Borders

Top Border

Step 1: Using the swell edge of the 12-inch Decorative Trimmer, cut a 12″ x 3″ strip with gold lined paper for the base, aligning the paper at the top edge of the trimmer. Align the paper with the bottom edge of the trimmer and cut a 3/8″ swell strip (save for Step 3).

Step 2: Using the Home Sweet Home Border Maker Cartridge, punch a border with black chevrons paper. Trim to 12″ x 3″ and adhere on the base.

Step 3: Cut a 12″ x 2″ strip with slate mini dots paper. Adhere on the border and mount the swell strip on top as shown.

Step 4: Using the inside edge of the smallest Custom Cutting System Circle Pattern and the Green Blade, cut ten circles with white bubbles, gold polka dots and black chevrons papers. Adhere as shown on the border, topping with silver and gold number stickers to make the countdown. Using the Circle Chain Border Maker Cartridge, punch six total dots with gold polka dots paper. Adhere three along the right side of the border as shown.

Bottom Border

Steps: Follow the same steps as above to create this border, alternating hues as desired. Adhere a border sticker beneath the swell strip. Adhere “Happy New Year” with silver and gold letters. Add the remaining three gold dots to the left side of the border as shown.

Will you be making these New Year borders to celebrate 2023 (or of years past)? What are your scrapbooking goals for the year ahead?
