Baking All Dressed Up!

Today I want to share with you how I took some baking and dressed it up to be an adorable little welcome home gift for my grandmother!

I absolutely love baking – but the problem is that I’m the only one in my house who really loves eating yummy baked goods. If I bake a cake, it means I’m eating almost a whole cake to my self. So, how I stop myself from eating too many cakes all to myself is I bake cupcakes or split my batter into smaller cake tins so that I can gift some of my baking!

At the beginning of this week my grandmother came home from the hospital and one of my favourite things to do with her is enjoy coffee and cake together. I knew she would appreciate coming home to home-made carrot cake and since I was baking for Thanksgiving anyway, I thought I would make her a little one as well.

Of course she would have loved the cake just as shown above, but that’s just not the way I’m wired. I needed to include a card or a note along with it. I was working with the Painted Harvest Collection and knew right away that the Painted Harvest Variety Mat-Pack would work perfectly to make a nice big tag for my cake.

I adhered one of the smaller cards (4″X 6″) that says, “Thankful” in a beautiful script font to one of the larger cards (4-1/2″X 6-1/2″).

I also took a strip of Painted Harvest Scrapbook Paper measuring 2-1/2″X12″ to make a belly band around the cake. I used a 1/2″ strip of the same paper and used it to make a flagged banner across the front of the tag. I embellished the tag with some flowers and rhinestones from the embellishment pack.

For the back of the tag I wrote my little message and just adhered a 1/2″ strip of the coordinating Painted Harvest Scrapbook Paper – and that’s it!

Quick – simple – and super sweet!

  1. Love it!…I like the ease of using the mat card, and the embellishments are simple, but add so much. Will “steal” this idea! :)

    1. You’re absolutely right! These tins are just perfect for putting in single size meals for loved ones!

  2. You are so thoughtful! Your presentation is so much better than a note scribbled on a scrap of paper. Presenting the cake this way, using those beautiful papers and embellishments, shows how much you care! Thanks for the lovely idea.

    1. Thanks for taking a peek at the blog!
I think a note of any kind is thoughtful – but it sure is fun to play around and dress it up :)
