Make the Patchwork Quilt Scrapbook Layout

Several years ago when my mom retired from her 20-year teaching career, she decided to make a ninety-degree change and become a student – learning quilting! She spent hours upon hours learning the process, techniques and stitching from an expert quilter from her church, and took on the time-consuming challenge of making thoughtful, personalized quilts for all four of her kids, as well as her grandkids.

She’s made me two patchwork quilts that I absolutely adore, one ballet-themed and one themed around my dogs, and they’re my favourite gifts from her. Today’s Patchwork Quilt Scrapbook Layout was inspired by my love of these quilts. Let’s take a look!

Step 1 - Tools

What You’ll Need:

Step 2

Step 1: Use the Beige Cardstock as your base. You’ll need 6 sheets of Designer Paper and ensure that it is one sheet of each of the papers, plus as an additional sheet of the dark brown shade of Cloth paper.

Step 3

Step 2: To start, you’ll want to trim a 1/2″ from the top and the side of the dark brown to measure 11-1/2″ x 11-1/2″. Once it is cut, you’ll adhere it to the base.

Step 3: For five of the remaining six sheets of paper, you will want to cut out two 2-inch strips of paper, representing each shade. Then, you will trim down these 2-inch strips into 2″ x 2″ squares, giving you 6 pieces that represent each Designer Paper. Adhere these to the layout using Repositionable Tape in a quilt pattern.

Step 4: In the bottom left-hand corner of the layout, take the additional piece of the dark brown Designer Paper sheet and cut out a 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ square. Then, take the dark grey paper and cut out a 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ square to mat your photo.

Step 5: With the remaining pieces of the darker paper, punch out floral shapes using the Dewdrop Flower Punch and the Daisy Bouquet Punch. Layer these evenly on Foam Squares within the layout. At the bottom, you will add a layer using the Dewdrop Flower Punch.

Step 7: The final step is to adhere your photo mats and the paper four journaling. Pick out your photo (1 – 4″ x 4″) and you are all done!

And that’s all there is to making this gorgeous quilted scrapbook layout! Comment below and tell us what you think and what other collections you might consider using this layout with!

  1. Awesome! Great background for a photo of my husband creating one of his quilts. Would be fun if I can find fabric paper similar to some fabric he has used.

  2. I love quilts and my sister made several during her life. I am preparing a memorial scrapbook about her, and I want to design my layouts to look like quilts. This is a fabulous design, and I know I will be able to use it with my fabulous CM papers. Let’s see even MORE quilt-design layouts. :-)

  3. Years ago (at least 25} shortly after I started scrapbooking with Creative Memories they had page designs of various quilt block patterns for an entire 12×12 album made from 3×3 paper squares that could also be cut down into various size triangles to create quilt patterns like bear claw or flying geese. On a two page spread, one page would be your quilt block with photos mounted on the squares in the quilt block and the other page had a coordinating border design. I used these layouts for one of my earlier albums.

  4. I did this layout last night-it is so pretty-but why are the 2.5 in squares not true to size?
