We are already warming up for the summer! To help you get ready for a season of sun, we’re thinking ahead with these DIY Chasing the Sun Paper Umbrellas. They are the perfect quick craft for your first pool day or patio hang. Using the vibrant patterns from the Chasing the Sun collection, these bring an intentional touch to your drinks and party decor. Watch the short video or follow the simple steps below to get started.

EXTRA INGREDIENT: WOODEN SKEWERS OR TOOTHPICKS
Watch: Follow along for a quick tutorial on these paper umbrellas!

Step 1: Place a piece of Chasing the Sun designer paper on the 13×13 CCS Mat. Use the Green CCS Blade around the outside of the Medium CCS Circle Pattern and lift away the paper for a perfect circle.
Step 2: Using the Multi-Purpose Tool for crisp creases, fold the circle in half four times until you have a small wedge shape.
Step 3: Unfold the circle and cut a single slit along one of the fold lines from the outer edge to the center point.
Step 4: Refold the circle back into the wedge shape and use All-Purpose Scissors to cut a small curve or “divot” into the wide edge. Keep one of these paper scraps to use for the end of the skewer later.
Step 5: Fully unfold the circle. Apply adhesive with the Tape Runner to one of the sections and overlap it with the adjacent wedge to create a dimensional cone shape.
Step 6: Trim a wooden skewer to about 4″.
Step 7: Take the small excess paper scrap from earlier, apply adhesive, and roll it around the top of the skewer to create the tip of the umbrella.
Step 8: Poke the skewer through the center point of the paper cone to create a small hole.
Step 9: Slide the skewer through the center of the paper, and you have your umbrellas!
And just like that, you’re ready for the sun. These tiny umbrellas are a clean, simple way to use the Chasing the Sun paper for your next gathering. They’re the perfect finishing touch for a summer of hosting. We can’t wait to see how yours turn out!
