Birthday Week Inspiration From Home Office: Sketch #107

A scrapbook sketch can be a great way to get started on a layout, especially when you have multiple photos you want to bring together on one page. With a little patterned paper, some layering and a few creative touches, you can take a sketch and make it work for your own memories.

For this Birthday Week project, Madelyn from the Creative Memories Home Office started with Sketch #107 from the 110 Scrapbooking Sketches Book and gave it her own spin using the Delight collection. She created a three-photo Scrap Journal layout with a striped background, layered photo frames and coordinating patterned paper to bring everything together.

Watch: Madelyn takes on sketch #107 and makes it her own!

Start With the Sketch

Here’s the original sketch that inspired Madelyn’s layout:

A gray-themed graphic design featuring a two-photo layout with decorative elements like a rounded shape, a splash design, and text area at the bottom.
A collage featuring two retro photographs. The top image shows a woman cooking in a kitchen, wearing a plaid apron. The bottom image depicts a woman relaxing outdoors in sunglasses and a striped shirt. The background is decorated with floral patterns and text highlighting admiration for 'Aunt Jean' and her adventurous spirit.

Instead of following the sketch exactly, Madelyn adapted the design to fit her three photos, overlapping one photo to add interest while using layered frames and coordinating patterned paper to tie the page together. She also added paper accents and handwritten journaling to finish the layout with a personal touch.

That’s the fun of working with sketches. You can use the original design as-is or change the photo placement, experiment with different papers and add your own embellishments to create a layout that fits your memories and style.

  1. Looks like a journal page, Mary, which is much smaller than a 12×12 page. I like it. I don’t think it’s a “birthday” design; just posted during CM’s birthday week.
